Dark Love OR Bright Love

Dark Love OR Light Love
W e pass through stages in our lives. Stage by stage, when you are young you know nothing about love. As you grow up, you tend to grow feelings for one another. But as you walk through the earth, you see people suffering from love, and hate has increased, but why? Is the love of most people impure?

We have come to an Era of our lives that people know nothing about true love. A time when people would only love for their desire and selfishness. It is not surprising to see many suicidal stories, indeed the world has grown dark to their eyes, and hearts enclosed to the reality, blinded by their desires, and a feeling of discomfort… I mostly call this dark love, because that is earthly love and not love for the sake of your Lord.
Most marriages don’t tend to last long nowadays. Of course a person with no faith would most likely try everything in life even if they know that this matter is not good for them, they would just do it. And so marriage seems unimportant to them, and the light of love, bringing up a good household.
In many classical music, you would hear the violin play along and say that “this is like a love story,” but perhaps it plays with your emotions like the dark edges of the night, sadness would most likely enter your heart, and you find no peace of rest as your desires increase which bring no benefit…
Love songs are everywhere in our days, if you hear them, you would only get the wrong impression of love. Maybe this is why people are so deviated? Actually the one with no faith would most likely be deviated.
Praise be to Allah, who has given us this pure religion of Islam, which solves everything, especially shaytan’s traps. Earthy love just brings a stain. But Love for the sake of Allah brings light and comfort to the heart. If you remember Allah much, you would find a sense of comfort in your heart…
Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah: verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest . ( سورة الرعد , Ar-Rad, Chapter #13, Verse #28)
If you love Allah, and remember him often, you will develop love for the sake of Allah. Indeed it is so peaceful…
The story of Prophet Yusuf (alayhim wa salam) has a mystic meaning. Prophet Yusuf (alayhim wa salam) had many trials in his life which teaches us a lot of lessons for us to implement. He was strong to overcome them with the help of Allah. One of his trials was Zulaikha who was the wife of the Aziz of Egypt. She was deeply in love with prophet Yusuf (alayhim wa salam) as Allah has given him the most beautiful feature of a man. As soon as the Aziz brought him to the house, Zulaikha couldn’t believe her eyes that one day she burned with the flame of animal love and she tempts Yusuf (alayhim wa salam) to make love with her. But Yusuf (alayhim wa salam) was very pure and his heart was humbled to his lord, so he refused Zulaikha. Zulaikha placed all sorts of temptations in Yusuf’s way but he stayed firm as a rock…
Her love was earthly, the animal selfish love which left a stain that made much mischief… She spent her life loving prophet Yusuf (alayhim wa salam), and one day she realized the truth, and Allah is oft forgiving. Most merciful…
“To meek and lowly, who seek God’s love in sincerity and are willing to sacrifice all that the external world holds dear, God grants his love in abundant measure. For every sin, followed by repentance and right will, there is forgiveness; but for persistent pride and hardness of heart there is nothing but the abyss” (Quran commentary by Abdullah Yousuf Ali).
I learnt a lot about the story between prophet Yusuf (alayhim wa salam) and Zulaikha, she had this selfish love, shaytan traped her and she struggled much. But Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) accepts repentance, for Allah is oft forgiving, most merciful…
Most people admire the famous Shakespeare story of Romeo and Juliet. But do they realize the message of it?
The true love is the love of two who are devote to their lord, and help one another to do righteous deeds, so that they could reach the eternal paradise together…And as Allah takes away the person’s beloved, the person would have hope to meet him or her in Paradise, instead of crawling on the edge and blaming Allah Almighty. Of course Humans are weak sometimes, we cannot be so perfect, but we can give thought, and that would make less harm. Look at the love between Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her) and Prophet Muhammad (salalahu alayhim wa salam). And the love between Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and prophet Muhammad (salalahu alayhim wa salam). Indeed true love last longer…
The prophet said:
“Everyone will be with those whom he loves.” [Al-Bukhair]
Sometimes you cannot have the specific thing that you love dearly in this life, maybe Allah will give you something better in the hereafter…
Replace your dark love with the love of Allah, if you cry for desire or sadness, think of Allah, so that you may cry for Allah…. Indeed it gives comfort for the heart… take out all the bad feelings and beg to Allah to remove the traps of shaytan. Replace your bad thoughts with something better, example fasting. The hereafter is the true eternal life, so we must be looking forward for the next life rather than this life, the life of the Gardens where happiness is for forever… Allah explains in the Quran that we will have pure spouses, pure love, and enjoyment. We will not taste the dark edge of this world, and we will breathe the breeze of love and happiness.

“False love is only a toy for self indulgence. Self, not the other, is the governing motive…
When love is not perfect, with one sole thought—
Himself—is the heart of the lover fraught.
He looks on his love as a charming toy,
The spring and source of his selfish joy.
One rose he would pluck from his love, and leave
A hundred thorns her lone heart to grieve…

Just as, in human affairs, there is true and false love, so in our inner and higher life, there is divine love that transcends all human love…
How blest is he who can close his eye
And let the vain pageants of life pass by!---
Untouched by the magic of earth can keep
His soul awake while the senses sleep;
Scorn the false and the fleeting that meets the view,
And see what is hidden and firm and true!”
(Quran commentary by Abdullah Yousuf Ali).

“Love one another for the sake of Allah, it will bring more benefit. Don’t let the shaytan trap you by the earthly love which brings a stain”
